Finding a Major Fit After a Benjamin 2NT Opening
Your partner opens 2NT, using Benjamin. How can you find a fit in the majors if you have: -
- five hearts and four spades or
- five spades and four hearts?
Answer
For five hearts and four spades, fairly easy. Just bid 3♦ and then follow partner's forced 3♥ response by 3♠.
With five spades and four hearts, there isn't a two-bid sequence that will still allow you to relax into 3NT. However, the sequence 2NT - 3♠ can be used for the specific combination of five spades and four hearts - assuming you are not using this sequence to show a minor's combination, e.g. 5-5 minimum.
